The harsh truth about Dating Apps photos

I'd like to say I downloaded the Bumble app just for research for this blog post but honestly, my curiosity of how it all worked on the new swipey dating apps these days got the best of me. I'd been out of the game for over 7 years so there was a learning curve. Once the swipe left/right thing was understood (and yes, there were accidental right swipes that made me FREAK OUT... "NO NO NO NO NO!" I realized there is a problem here.

Here's my takeaway: 99% of men on this app, and I'm assuming it's the same on every other as well, have the WORST PROFILE PHOTOS EVER. Like, "WHAT on Earth are you thinking?!"

Here are some of the worst:

The SUPER DUPER insanely close up photo of 1/3 of their face, with sunglasses on.

The shirtless selfie (just, NO)

The "I don't smile" tough guy selfie, "that's sexy, right?" NOPE

The flaunting of the tribal and/or barbed wire tattoos.

The super out-of-focus / dark shadowy / no eye-contact "clearly I don't like the way I look" pix

The "not me but my dog/kid/ex" because.... you're shy? No idea on that one.

Okay, so I have some pointers for all you single guys on the dating app scene. Oh and for research sake, I looked up the ladies as well and they're no better.  LADIES, back the camera up! Holy close-ups! Both y'all.... please let me help. Here:

• smile

• have someone else take the photo...no more selfies

• stop flaunting and just be authentic, unless you'e just looking for a hookup. In which case, carry on.

Here are my photos from my profile and why I used them:

My honest advice would be to hire a photographer to get an amazing portfolio that you can use not just on dating sites but also on LinkedIn, Facebook and other social media.  That's where I come in. Not only can I help you with a few professional shots that will show your authenticity and personality, I can help you choose a few personal snapshots from your phone or FB/IG account that show who you are and what you're all about.  So HMU kittens.
